Summer School 2023

GBAPS is committed to ensuring every student in our school community feels engaged, connected and supported! Summer School is a learning opportunity for students to engage in academic and enrichment opportunities all designed to help students stay on track for graduation to become college, career and community ready. GBAPS Summer School is open to all students, even if they are not currently enrolled in a GBAPS school.  

Summer School Registration

After April 28, 2023, registration will continue to be taken based on remaining course availability. Please register by brining your paper registration forms to your school office or the district office. We will continue to accept paper registrations for classes with available space. (Paper forms found in the back of the coursebooks). 

Summer School enrollment is FREE for GBAPS students and students who live within the GBAPS district boundaries. Students who do not live within the GBAPS boundaries will be charged a $50.00 fee per course.  

Half Day Summer School with Optional Afternoon Opportunities Provided by the YMCA (New! Free of Charge/Limited Availability)
The five sites listed below will be running morning Summer School programming with an optional afternoon opportunity provided by the YMCA. The morning will be a combination of academics and enrichment. The afternoon program runs until 5 p.m. with engaging activities and two weekly field trips coordinated by the YMCA. Registration for the afternoon program is handled directly through the YMCA. Thanks to a federal grant, the YMCA program will be at no cost to families. Any family that has already paid a $5 enrollment fee will be reimbursed. Each site has a limited number of openings.

*Effective April 3, 2023, all summer school classes for Lombardi Middle School have been moved to Southwest High School due to construction.
**Effective April 24, 2023, all of Franklin Middle School's summer school classes will be held at West High School.

Food Service During Summer School

The District Food Service Department will serve school breakfast and lunch at our Summer School sites. In addition, lunch will be offered at many City of Green Bay parks and community partner locations. Meals will be free for students. At this time, per the United States Department of Agriculture, the summer Food Service program will be returning to pre-pandemic rules, where meals will no longer be available for pick-up, but rather all meals will be required to be eaten at the school or park location. Summer School Guidelines Regarding Heat Index and/or Air Quality Index

If the heat index is between 90 and 95 degrees:
Students will be provided with ample amounts of water and will remain in air conditioned spaces as much as possible within buildings.  
If students are engaging in physical activity: 
- When possible the activities will be moved to a shaded area outdoors or moved indoors.

Breaks will be provided at least every 30 minutes for about 10 minutes to allow for students to cool down and hydrate. In addition, students will be allowed to take breaks as needed during activities and have access to water.
Staff are asked to watch and monitor students carefully for signs of heat exhaustion and to call a district nurse if there are concerns.
If the heat index is above 95 degrees:
- All outdoor activities will be moved indoors to air conditioned spaces.

Water will be provided.
-
Staff will monitor the building’s temperature to determine the level of physical activity to allow.

Staff are asked to watch and monitor students carefully for signs of heat exhaustion and to call a district nurse if there are concerns.
If the outdoor Air Quality Index (AQI) is 101 or more, students will remain indoors, including for co-curricular activities. 



ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Dates:
Session 1: June 19 - July 14, 2023 (No classes July 3-7, 2023)
Session 2: July 17 - August 4, 2023 

GBAPS will run nine elementary Summer School sites located around the district with half day or full day options.

Full Day Summer School
The four sites listed below will be running full day Summer School. The morning will be a combination of academics and enrichment. During the afternoons, students can select from a variety of enrichment learning opportunities!
