Special Education

General

Transportation Services adheres to the philosophy that all students should have the access to the least restrictive transportation that they need. For this reason, we provide transportation for a number of different programs in support of students with special needs. We recognize that many of these students have unique challenges. We work closely with the Special Education Department to provide accommodations and customized transportation for these students.

Daily Transportation

Transportation Services works with Lamers Bus Lines and First Student to transport students to and from school daily. Some students ride on routes dedicated to special needs students according to their IEPs. Others students ride buses with their regular education peers.

Modified Transportation

There are times when a student, due to their needs, may have a different school schedule than his or her peers. We look at all transportation options, including school buses, District-owned vans, and contracted transportation (usually Northwest Transportation Services or Lamers Medivan) and arrange transportation based on what is best for the student.

Therapy Sessions

Speech and Language therapy sessions are usually transported via district van.

Community Based Instruction (CBI)

Some students in our District have different educational needs than their peers. Many times, teachers focus on teaching these students life skills that will help them be community-ready as they transition from school to life. We provide on-demand transportation for, averaging 25-35 trips per month.
