Commitment to the Environment

A student holds a black plastic tray filled with a balanced lunch including vegetables, a fruit cup, milk, a pizza slice and a treat.

The GBAPS Food Service Department is committed to reducing waste wherever possible. As funds allow, or as school kitchens are renovated, dishwashers are added to allow schools to use reusable trays. Recently Howe Elementary Community School was added to the list of schools that use reusable trays!

The following schools have implemented reusable trays:

  • East High School
  • Preble High School
  • Southwest High School
  • West High School
  • John Dewey Academy of Learning
  • N.E.W. School of Innovation
  • Dr. Rosa Minoka-Hill School
  • Aldo Leopold Community School
  • Red Smith School
  • Leonardo da Vinci School for Gifted and Talented Learners
  • Baird Elementary School
  • Howe Elementary School
  • Martin Elementary School
  • Sullivan Elementary School

In 2026-27, Starr Elementary and the newly renovated Chappell, Doty and Lincoln Elementary Schools will also be able to use reusable trays.
